Definitely not as good as Equilibrium. Though the gun kata is a step up, Jovovich is still playing Alice from Resident Evil, and the film has quite obviously been hacked to shit. The fight scenes have been neutered, chunks of the story seem rather fragmented and the bad guy is too comical for his own good.

Still, it looks beautiful, it's got more imagination in the fucking opening credit sequence than most action films do in their entire running time, and Jovovich is fit.

Do you reckon it'd benefit from a well-done Director's Cut then? Most films these days seem to get them... mayhaps I'll wait for the DVD release.

Aren't the Asgard supposedly technologically superior?

I think the Directors Cut (apparently half a fucking hour is missing) will be a fuck of a lot better. The fight scenes were pretty gutless, so when they put the good stuff back in it'll be well worth a watch. It was all hacked out so the film could get a PG-13 in the US, and hence be available to a much bigger audience.

A step down from the rather serious themes of Equilibrium, but it's a definite step up in vision.

Cool! I thought Equilibreum's fight scenes were top-notch, so this should be good

Apparently the unrated version, which we will probably get as a DC, has six minutes restored. Not sure whether that six minutes is exposition or action (hopefully action, as six minutes of story won't make much of a difference) but the DVD only cameo ut in the US yesterday, so info is scarce.
