One of my favourite horror films ever is about to receive a remake. John Carpenter's The Thing, itself often called a remake (though it isn't, I hasten to add) is going to receive the remake treatment.
Now, at first, the project was called a 'prequel' which befuddled me some, as I couldn't see how that would work. Rightly enough, it now turns out it's a flat-out remake, but they are apparently calling it a "companion piece". I feel the quotation marks are fully deserved. I feel quite ill.
It's like they decided, "Oh, we can't top JC's effort, but we'll remake it anyway and because we know we can't compete directly, we'll call it a companion piece and try to dodge some of the criticism that way."
Shite.
